Christian Counseling FAQs

How faith and clinical care work together.

Christian counseling creates room for your faith to be part of the healing process while maintaining thoughtful, evidence-based mental health care. At Revier Counseling, the level of faith integration is always guided by your preferences, story, and goals.

At a glance

What Christian counseling means here.

Faith is approached as a meaningful part of the whole person—alongside emotional, relational, physical, cultural, and clinical needs.

01

It is clinical care

Christian counseling combines licensed mental health treatment with a client’s Christian beliefs, values, and spiritual resources.

02

Faith integration is your choice

You decide whether—and how—prayer, Scripture, spiritual questions, or faith practices are included in your care.

03

Guided by faith, informed by science

Faith integration works alongside established therapeutic approaches selected for your needs and goals.

04

Questions are welcome

Therapy can hold certainty, doubt, grief, spiritual struggle, church hurt, and questions about meaning without judgment.

What a session may include

Personalized to your faith and your goals.

Clinical approaches

Evidence-based therapeutic methods chosen for your concerns, strengths, readiness, and treatment goals.

Meaning and values

Exploration of identity, purpose, hope, forgiveness, relationships, grief, and the values that guide your decisions.

Spiritual resources

Prayer, Scripture, spiritual practices, or support from a faith community may be incorporated when you request them and they support your care.

Spiritual struggles

A safe place to discuss doubt, anger, shame, church hurt, conflicting beliefs, or experiences that have made faith feel complicated.

Common questions

What clients often want to know.

Do I have to be Christian?

No. Revier Counseling respects each client’s beliefs, background, and autonomy. Christian integration is available for clients who want it; it is not required.

Will we pray or read Scripture in every session?

Only if that is meaningful to you and fits your goals. Some clients want explicit spiritual practices, others prefer faith to remain a quiet background value, and some prefer to keep counseling purely clinical without faith integration.

Is Christian counseling a replacement for medical or psychiatric care?

No. Counseling may be one part of a broader care plan. When appropriate, your clinician may encourage coordination with a physician, psychiatrist, recovery provider, pastor, or another trusted professional—with your permission.

Is this the same as pastoral counseling?

No. Pastoral counseling focuses primarily on faith and theology. At Revier Counseling, licensed clinicians provide mental health treatment under professional ethical and clinical standards, with faith integrated when requested.

What concerns can we discuss?

You may bring anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationships, life transitions, substance use, identity, purpose, forgiveness, spiritual struggles, or other concerns affecting your well-being.

Can I change my mind about faith integration?

Yes. Faith integration is optional, and you can opt in or out at any time. Your clinician will continue checking in so the approach remains respectful, helpful, and aligned with your goals.

Your choice matters

Care should honor—not assume—your beliefs.

Professional ethics emphasize client self-determination, cultural humility, and respect for religious and spiritual diversity. Your clinician will ask rather than assume, explain options clearly, and adjust the approach as your needs evolve.
